Classification: According to Article 7 of Law No. 5224, as amended on January 18, 2019, films that have not undergone evaluation and classification can only be shown at festivals, special screenings, and similar cultural and artistic events with an 18+ age restriction.
Set in 17th-century Germany during the immediate aftermath of the Thirty Years’ War, a remote village is disrupted by the arrival of a mysterious guest. The soldier, returning from the front, carries a document claiming he is the rightful heir to a local farm. Although his heavily scarred face is unfamiliar, the tight-knit community accepts him. Through tireless labour and strict adherence to the rules of the devout Protestant village, he quickly earns their admiration and rises to prominence. Yet, it is all a brilliant deception. The stranger, who soon marries the daughter of a prominent local farmer, is actually a woman named Rose, disguised as a man.
Inspired by actual court records from the era, this story examines enduring themes of gender, liberty, and property rights through a contemporary lens - a sentiment perfectly encapsulated when Rose declares, “There was more freedom in pants.”
