Eleven-year-old Christophe’s only dream in life is to work in the fields in a few years’ time with his farmer father and older brother, driving a tractor. His father expects his sons to grow into well-behaved, hardworking and resilient men who stand tall in the face of life’s challenges. However, Christophe’s body betrays him. First at school, then at home and in the fields, he begins to lose his footing and fall. Diagnosed with a severe spinal deformity, the doctor says there is only one remedy: an iron corset worn at all times to force Christophe’s body upright. While the iron cage isolates Christophe from his father’s rigid ideals and the outside world, it also cracks open a doorway to unexpected horizons. He discovers music, experiences his first love, and finds the courage to stand up to his father. It is a timeless, nostalgic coming-of-age story about the clash between dream-chasing sons and their dream-crushing fathers.
