First Surprise from the Ayvalık International Film Festival: The “Short Films” Section Comes to Ayvalık in Collaboration with Akbank Sanat!
The Ayvalık International Film Festival, organized by the Eye Society in collaboration with the Ayvalık Municipality, features the highly popular Shorts section, which will take place this year under the sponsorship of Akbank Sanat. Celebrating its 5th anniversary from September 14–20, the festival will bring together short films from Turkey and various regions of the world, focusing on current examples of short film production.
The Ayvalık International Film Festival, which has placed great importance on the Shorts selection—comprising short films, one of cinema’s most dynamic, innovative, and creative fields—for the past four years, is bringing this selection to film lovers this year under the sponsorship of Akbank Sanat. The Ayvalık International Film Festival is expanding its scope even further with the support of Akbank Sanat, which is opening up a vast platform for filmmakers through the Akbank Short Film Festival—set to be held for the 23rd time in 2027. With its “Kısalar” section—which will present a wide range of works, from new directors’ debut projects to short films by master filmmakers—the festival aims to serve as an inspiring meeting point for film professionals, young filmmakers, and film enthusiasts.
Powerful Stories from Turkish and World Cinema Will Come Together in Ayvalık
Comprising productions that stand out for their formal experimentation, bold narratives, and unique perspectives, this year’s Short Films selection will, for the first time, feature not only prominent examples of short film production from Turkey but also international short films that have garnered acclaim at international festivals and showcase the cultures and stories of diverse regions. In this way, the festival will create a platform for international exchange, discovery, and connection in the field of short film, while also hosting filmmakers from around the world.
Organized with the support of Akbank Sanat, which champions the creative voices shaping the future of cinema and supports the development of short films, the screenings will offer film enthusiasts a rich viewing experience throughout the festival. The films included in the program, which highlights the creative possibilities offered by short films, will consist of productions in the genres of fiction, documentary, animation, and experimental film that have garnered attention at national and international festivals. Through director talks and Q&A sessions following the screenings, film enthusiasts and filmmakers will have the opportunity to come together and discuss the production processes of the films and the current dynamics of short filmmaking.
Details about the films and the program for the “Kısalar” section, organized under the sponsorship of Akbank Sanat at the Ayvalık International Film Festival, will be announced in the coming days.
