GAIAPOROSIS: THE HOLLOWING OF THE COMMONS
TALK
Füsun Türetken, Angela Melitopoulos
ASKEV SERA
18 September, Friday, 17.30, ASKEV
This section, curated by Prof. Dr. Füsun Türetken, who teaches Media Theory and Visual Culture at the University of the Arts Bremen and the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, takes Türetken’s concept of ‘Gaiaporosis’ as its conceptual starting point. The term describes the material depletion of the world through the extraction of raw materials, as well as the erosion of democratic life through the infrastructures and economies of digital communication. Alongside screenings of Lucrecia Martel’s Landmarks, Ursula Biemann and Paulo Tavares’s Forest Law, and Yeşim Ustaoğlu and Selen Heinz’s On the Dry Rock, the section will also feature a conversation between Angela Melitopoulos, director of the fourth film, Crossings, and Füsun Türetken on these issues.
